Each year the P&C runs a range of activities to support families and children to connect with each other, fundraise, have fun, celebrate and create opportunities for our kids to have access to resources that support all aspects of their education at school.

Our annual calendar of activities includes:

Term 1

Prep Welcome Picnic & BBQ

Held at the Prep playground and oval to coincide with the first week of the school year. P&C volunteers create a special BBQ (usually with treats like a sausage sizzle, popcorn and snow cones) at the Prep playground for all new Prep students and their families to meet, play and forge positive connections to start the year on a high.

Welcome to New Parents Morning Tea

The P&C partners with Chappy Jenny to host a morning tea at the Tuckshop straight after school drop off on the first day of school, for Prep and new parents to the school share stories and connect over a cuppa.

Cross country snow cone stalls

A definite highlight of the junior and senior cross country days! Kids love buying their $2 snow cones from parent volunteers after their run.

Easter raffle

A much anticipated fundraiser with many happy winners. Throughout term 1 families donate items for Easter hampers and sell raffle tickets to friends, family and colleagues. Each year more than 100 Easter hampers are distributed as prizes to excited kids during the last week of term 1.

Term 2

Mother’s Day stall

This special stall is packed full of unique gifts donated by families in the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day. Families also have the option to donate $5 per child for P&C volunteers to go shopping on their behalf. The stall is held in the school hall the Friday before Mother’s Day and kids love bringing their $3 to buy a lovely Mother’s Day gift for their special adult.

Building Fund Appeal

Our Building Fund Appeal is an annual opportunity for families and community members to make a tax deductible donation to support the provision of much needed improvements to school buildings and infrastructure that would otherwise not be possible. For example, it is through the support of parents over many years that the P&C was able to fund air conditioning for every classroom in the school (2017-2019). Your support is appreciated and really does make a difference!

Fete (every second year – next one is May 2023)

This is an important fundraising and community building activity for our school and community. Our next Fete coincides with the school’s 150th birthday celebrations so will be bigger and better than ever! The Fete is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our school and local businesses to the wider community. Head to the Fete page to find out more.

Term 3

Trivia Night

We have fantastic parents at Yeronga State School who organise the BEST trivia nights. If we play our cards right they may just organise another one for term 3, 2021. Theme and date to be announced closer to the time. Always an awesome night of wholesome adults only fun.

Father’s Day stall

Our second special stall of the year, where our kids each select a great gift to give their special adult on Father’s Day. Gifts are donated by families in the weeks leading up to the stall, and families also have the option to donate $5 per child for P&C volunteers to go shopping on their behalf. Held in the school hall the Friday before Father’s Day, kids love bringing their $3 to buy a gift to give their special adult on the Sunday.

School fun run (every second year – next one due 2022)

We plan to hold a school fun run every second year, in our ‘non-Fete’ years. In 2018 YSS kids raised more than $30,000 to help air condition our school and it will be amazing to build on this success in 2022.

Term 4

World Teachers’ Day morning tea

We love our teachers at Yeronga State School and World Teachers Day is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our appreciation for all YSS teachers who support our kids to reach their full potential. Parent volunteers coordinate morning tea and donate a range of sweet and savoury treats for teachers to enjoy on at break time.

Swimming carnival snow cone stalls

Our Junior and Senior school kids look forward to cooling off with their $2 snow cones after they’ve raced their hearts out at their swimming carnival. Parent volunteers are the angels who make these stalls possible.

Other ways we support our school and community

  • There are many other ways that parents and P&C members get involved throughout the year, including:
    • Sausage sizzles at Bunnings and on election days
    • Working bees to create and maintain Nature Play spaces, and other areas around the school
    • Leading the YSS Garden Club and Green Team activities
    • Coordinating ‘earn and learn’-type promotions often run by Woolworths and Coles to provide sporting, technology and other resources for the school
    • Helping with the sorting of lost property and end of term lost property displays
    • Grant writing – the P&C has been successful in securing grants for facilities and programs and is always on the lookout to apply for suitable grant funding schemes.
